Mō te tūnga | About the role
Our team undertakes geospatial and imagery analysis in order to deliver reporting to enable understanding and insights.
Responsibilities include:
- Creating Geospatial and Imagery Intelligence Products in support of NZDF and Government activities.
- Manipulating and analysing imagery and geospatial data, using specialist software and databases.
- Researching and developing specialist knowledge in niche areas of interest.
- Liaising with and working alongside personnel from other NZDF units, other Government Agencies and International military agencies during routine day-to-day activities.
You will join a small friendly team with a wide range of backgrounds and experience. This is interesting work, which can lead you into a rewarding career within the New Zealand intelligence community. You will get to experience working with a wide range of customers and have the opportunity to become a subject matter expert.
This role is based in Wellington CBD. Due to the nature of this role, you need to work in the office. Flexible hours/days are negotiable. There may be times that you need to work outside of regular business hours to meet operational requirements. Should this occur you will receive additional compensation.
Occasional domestic and international travel is required. You will have the opportunity to travel overseas for specialised technical training.

Please note: As this role requires a high level of security clearance, you will need to be / have been a NZ, UK, Australian, Canadian or USA citizen for a minimum of 10 years to be eligible for this role.
The successful candidate is required to undergo a psychological assessment as part of the pre-employment security vetting process.

You will have a strong interest in geospatial and imagery analysis with demonstrated research and critical thinking skills. You will be organised and adaptable to thrive in a high-tempo work environment. You will bring excellent relationship building and stakeholder management skills.
You will also have:
- Strong analytical thinking with the ability to interpret multiple sources and identify critical elements and components related to the specified task.
- Excellent communication skills to produce written reports, graphics and briefings as well as engage with counterparts both inside and outside the organisation.
- A relevant tertiary qualification.
Intelligence knowledge and experience is highly desirable. However we will consider applicants with transferable skills and experience. We are open to applications from recent tertiary graduates as training and development will be provided.

To be eligible for the required level of government security clearance with the NZ Defence Force, you need to meet certain citizenship and residency criteria. Here's what you need to know:
Higher Level Security Clearance
- You must be a New Zealand Citizen for at least the last ten (10) years.
- At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last ten (10) years.
- To obtain this level of clearance, you must have a background history of fifteen (15) years that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
