Mō te tūnga | About the role
As the Business Analyst within Defence Recruiting, you will be responsible for the timely delivery of quality objective analysis and reporting across the wider military recruitment team. You will monitor and measure opportunities for improvement in processes, methodologies, and support the Leadership team with the delivery of research data, reports and recommendations, enabling recruitment decisions, advice and outputs.
You will be across strategic and operational analysis relating to NZDF recruitment, where you will develop an in-depth working knowledge of the Royal NZ Navy, NZ Army and Royal NZ Air Force, as well as all trades within each Service and the associated recruitment targets. This will include regular reporting on the recruitment pipeline and our projected success to Service targets, as well as analysis across the marketing, security, assessment, and medical aspects of military recruitment.
This role is a full time fixed term position until 30 June 2025. You will based in Wellington CBD. Once you have undergone training and are up to speed, there is the option of working from home up to two days a week.
Please Note: The formal title for this role within NZDF is Business Performance Analyst.

You will be a business analyst with a high level of attention to detail. You will be a skilled communicator and have the ability to work across various levels of an organisation. You will be passionate about continuous improvement, development, and be able to package data in such a way that management can make informed, effective decisions. You will work collaboratively with all areas of Defence Recruiting, as well as externally with government agencies/crown entities, building strong internal and external relationships.
You will have experience in:
- Research, analysis and report production.
- Process analysis tools and documentation techniques.
- Continuous improvement methodologies.
- Undertaking high-level problem solving and analytical processing.
Ideally you will also have experience using Bi Reporting, Tableau, Excel or similar analytics tools. You will be able to communicate technical/complex information into a manner understood by the audience and ideally have some experience in Salesforce.

Low Level Security Clearance
- You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
- At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last five (5) years.
- You must have a five (5) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
