Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

" Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) is responsible for sustainable decommissioning of the fleet of Magnox nuclear power stations and nuclear research facilities at Harwell, Winfrith and Dounreay. Over the coming years the company is due to double in scale, with the mission broadening to include decommissioning the UK’s Advanced Gas-Cooled Reactors.

A fit for purpose IT infrastructure is a key enabler to implement the above strategy. The NRS IT team is currently growing to support this mission, modernising existing systems to eliminate technical debt, and creating integrated and digitally enabled platforms and systems to allow smarter working.
The NRS Business Analysis (BA) team, work with all aspects of the business to deliver projects using both waterfall and agile methodologies and as a relatively new team there will be opportunities to develop and optimise processes to support the requirements of the business, the IT PMO and project managers.”
This opportunity is for a BA who will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between business needs and technology solutions to enable the delivery of the IT Transformation Programme and other projects across the existing and future business.
Key Deliverables
- As a customer-focused individual, the post holder will be expected to support the Lead Business Analyst and project delivery within his or her range of skills, knowledge, experience, and competence including:
- Requirements Engineering:
- Eliciting of business requirements from stakeholders through a range of techniques including document analysis, interview, workshops, and observations.
- Supporting solution design and procurement by working with testers to design testable requirements, acceptance criteria and test cases and maintaining traceability between each.
- Process Improvement:
- Creating business process models and workflows for AS-IS and TO-BE states and gap analyses to illustrate differences.
- Supporting the continuous improvement of business analysis and ITPMO processes.
- Supporting the Business Improvement Team as required.
- Communications:
- Supporting project managers and ITPMO and other BAs to deliver quality Business Analysis artefacts to underpin project delivery.
- Acting as the bridge’ between business units and IT technical teams including solution architects, developers and testers.
- Actively promote the role of the BA team and process improvement within IT and across NRS.
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified business analyst with BCS Practitioner Level qualifications or equivalent experience.
- Excellent analytical skills with experience using a wide range of business analysis tools, techniques, and knowledge of best practice.
- Demonstrable experience of eliciting business requirements and process mapping.
- Experience using a wide range of business analysis tools, techniques, and knowledge of best practice.
- Evidence of involvement in both waterfall and agile delivery methodologies.
- Experience of facilitating stakeholder workshops to elicit requirements and optimise processes.
- Experience within the public sector, engineering, or other highly regulated industries, which can be applied to NRS.

- The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year) , and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year).
