The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is an independent government agency which, in partnership with Basin governments, manages the Murray–Darling Basin’s water resources in the national interest. With the enactment of the Water Act 2007, the MDBA was established as an independent expertise-based statutory agency.
The MDBA aims to achieve a healthy working Basin for the benefit of all Australians. The Murray–Darling Basin contains a rich diversity of natural environments that are unique in Australia and the world. The Basin is also crucial to Australia’s economy and home to 2.3 million Australians, including people from over 50 First Nations. How we manage the Basin as a whole connected system, manage our water carefully, and protect it for future generations is set out in the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.
The Position
The Information Manager plays a critical enabling role within the ICT Service Delivery team, focusing on enhancing the MDBA’s information capabilities through strategic business analysis. This includes leading the information management strategy and associated frameworks across the enterprise to optimise information management practices. This requires a strong business analysis approach to understand and translate business system requirements to shape our information architecture (including AI opportunities).
The role works closely with other parts of the Business Services Portfolio and the Murray-Darling Basin Authority, other agencies of the Australian Government, the Basin States and Territories and vendors and service providers.
Your key responsibilities in this role are to:
- Lead and Manage Information Management Initiatives and ensure they align with business objectives and drive improvements in information capability.
- Contribute to Enterprise-wide Solutions,including the implementation of an enterprise-wide search capability and manage-in-place information compliance platform with a focus on connecting business information systems to these platforms through API or other connector solutions.
- Help Shape Strategic Direction including work plans for information management activities and support for ICT and data management efforts in line with the agency’s compliance obligations and technology opportunities.
- Facilitate the Transition to Modern Governance Practices by developing and overseeing governance and operational capability improvements, in line with the NAA’s Building Trust in the Public Record Policy and other government policies.
- Ensure MDBA’s Information Architecture meets Legislative Recordkeeping Requirements through all transition stages bycollaborating with the Information Compliance Manager and Records Officer to ensure compliance, including managing the sunsetting of legacy recordkeeping systems.
- Optimise the Information Content and its Compliance within Business Information Systems by assessing and identifying opportunities for improvements and efficiencies.
- Support ICT Projectsand enhance their adoption, including leveraging M365 information governance to bolster MDBA’s information governance architecture.
