Position overview
The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) is a Commonwealth-funded national research infrastructure facility within the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy program. The ARDC is a transformational initiative that creates competitive advantage through data for researchers, through access to nationally significant, leading-edge data intensive digital research infrastructure, platforms, skills and collections of high-quality data.
The Technical Business Analyst (Technical BA) in the ARDC plays a pivotal role across the ARDC Services business unit. The incumbent will work in a Canberra-based team, which has responsibility for the development and operations of several web-based and cloud-based national services that support research data discovery, connection, publishing, sharing, and reuse. Acting as a technical liaison, the Technical BA will work in an iterative environment across the business unit and be responsible for the effective elicitation, communication, and validation of requirements to support the continued development and success of these important national research services. The Technical BA will help define the success and future of these services and other products and infrastructure managed across the Services business unit, as these are leveraged to support the needs of ARDC’s thematic Research Data Commons (RDCs) and for the benefit of Australian research.

We welcome applications from individuals who possess the following attributes
- An understanding of the research context and the role of web-based services in transforming and accelerating research in Australia (will be highly regarded).
- Demonstrated expertise in developing requirements specifications, conducting testing, and creating end-user documentation, with experience in backend data systems including databases (MySQL/Neo4j), APIs, data integration, deployments, and data processing workflows. (knowledge of or experience with frontend interfaces would be highly regarded).
- Demonstrated skills and experience in Agile/iterative methodologies, managing competing priorities to meet critical deadlines, while coaching and supporting other team members through projects. Experience in Agile coaching or Scrum Master, along with demonstrated technical expertise in Jira and Confluence, is strongly preferred.
- Extensive experience working closely with technical teams and web application developers across the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to deliver effective and timely outcomes, including a basic understanding of programming languages such as Python, Java etc.
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to cultivate and maintain strong working partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholder groups; an ability to write technical documentation and reports for a variety of audiences; and develop and deliver training and workshops.
- Knowledge of emerging cloud technologies and trends, (experience with AI tools and technologies to enhance data analysis, automation, and decision-making processes within cloud services would be highly regarded).
- Demonstrated ability to successfully work within a diverse team, fostering a service-oriented culture, and building effective skill sets and expertise within the team.
