What is the purpose of this job?
We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented technical business analyst to join our team delivering new features on the National Rail Enquiries digital channels. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background (especially around APIs), excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage and communicate effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of new features. They will also support the team in the release of measurement frameworks to the business customers.
What can I expect to do in this job?
Project Planning and Coordination:
- Review and refine requirements to ensure the design of the proposed APIs meets the business needs.
- Work with RDG infosec / architecture and the suppliers to ensure adherence to RDG standards and best practices.
- Work with the suppliers to ensure the APIs are secure, efficient, and scalable.
- Ensure API documentation is completed and of sufficient quality.
- Work closely with supplier development teams to ensure successful integration of APIs into new and existing systems.
- Coordinate with business customers to understand their requirements and ensure releases meet their needs.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops with the business on API usage and release processes.
- Support QA in the testing of APIs and help identify and resolve bugs and performance issues (writing test cases, reviewing outputs).
- Work with product owners to manage and prioritize the product backlog.

What experience, skills and knowledge do I need?
- 2+ years of experience in a technical analyst role, with a focus on API development and integration
- Strong understanding of RESTful and SOAP APIs as well as XML
- Experience with API management tools such as Postman, Swagger, or similar.
- Knowledge of web services, microservices architecture, and cloud technologies.
- Familiarity with database technologies (SQL, NoSQL) and data formats (JSON, XML).
- Knowledge of security best practices for APIs.
- Use of Jira for project tracking and issue management.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex problems. Ability to interpret complex technical information and translate it into actionable insights.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience of explaining complex technical deliverables to both technical and non-technical business customers.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Note that this is a one-year fixed term contract.
