In this role, you'll:
Join the Fleet Maintenance Division (FMD) Planning & Resource team at Sydney Trains who are responsible for the planning of maintenance for the diesel and electric passenger fleets for Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink.
The planning encompasses budgeting, forecasting, and scheduling of maintenance, with key operational considerations covering supply chain, labour, passenger service requirements, maintenance facility capacity, and development of the strategic FMD maintenance plan.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Maintenance Planning Manager, we currently have an exciting opportunity available for a Business Analyst to join Sydney Trains on a permanent basis.
The objective of the role:
- Work collaboratively across the business, and utilising bespoke maintenance planning software, the successful candidate will be required to develop several long-term maintenance plan options/scenarios to be taken up for Sydney Trains executive endorsement.
- The competing needs of the business from budget, service requirements, supply chain capacity, facility operations capacity and labour utilisation will all need to be balanced and prioritised appropriately.
- To support the planning endorsement process, the ability to extract meaningful insights and metrics that demonstrate optimality, risks, and operational impacts will be key. Significant experience in using Tableau BI software will be necessary.
- More broadly, mature the business intelligence capability of the planning function with the recent adoption of Tableau: capability in data preparation, metric development, and dashboard creation is required.

About you
To be successful in this role, the candidate will need:
- Strong critical thinking and analytical capability
- Extensive Tableau experience or BI intelligence equivalent.
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Strong stakeholder skills as you work across the various departments to source maintenance delivery requirements, delivery constraints and ultimately deliver an optimised maintenance delivery plan.
The following attributes and experience will be advantageous.
- Experience working with multi-discipline teams in business
- A background in rail or transportation industry
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related discipline; mathematics, engineering, economics, other.
