Our Data Science and Analytics team is now seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst to play a central role in advancing the organisation's work programme. Role purpose | Te Kaupapa o te Tūranga
We're looking for someone to deliver analytical results and compelling insights that impact and inform our advice, strategic direction, research studies, and key organisational outputs including the New Zealand Infrastructure Strategy and National Infrastructure Plan.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Undertaking high quality analysis, modelling, and research to support the needs of the organisation.
- Applying your skills and knowledge to scope, develop, and implement intuitive BI solutions to help answer questions, provide insights, and inform the business and our stakeholders.
- Specifying the data structures and tools that need to be developed, and collaborating with data engineers, developers, or consultants to design, implement, and test solutions.
- Producing creative visualisations within Tableau and other tools using best practice techniques that bring our insights to life, tell compelling stories, integrate with our communications channels, and engage our users.
- Overseeing the governance arrangements for our production visualisation assets, ensuring data and insights are represented accurately, technical debt is well managed, access is controlled, and that deployment procedures and data governance policies are followed.
- Eliciting requirements from end users and ensuring our solutions are fit for purpose, while getting the most value in the least time. Continually iterating and refactoring these solutions to deliver enhanced insights and user experiences.
- Identifying data sources and working to influence data providers and other agencies to establish standards and methods to efficiently build and maintain the evidence base for our advice and insights.
- Supporting delivery and operation of the National Infrastructure Pipeline and Infrastructure Priority List including gathering information and onboarding new organisations.
Who we are after:
We're seeking a passionate and driven Business Intelligence Analyst or Developer at an intermediate or senior level who is:

- A natural with numbers, coding, and technology – with a passion for solving problems and applying your skills to uncover insights.
- A confident communicator who loves data visualisation and storytelling that is resourceful, creative, and proficient with our technology stack – capable of swiftly producing compelling insights that meet our customers' needs.
- A data champion eager to push our tools to the limit to ensure that we get the best from our investment in data, analytics tools, and our data intelligence platform, including AI.
- Motivated by the opportunity to inform and influencethe nation's strategic direction on infrastructure.

- Communicating and presenting findings and results with highly developed written skills.
- Collaborating with a varied set of stakeholders who have real intellectual grunt and influence within the sector.
- Developing compelling interactive content and tools in Tableau (and similar tools), using best practice techniques, and have a strong customer focus for delivering value.
- Leveraging the capabilities of our data intelligence platform (Databricks), backed with strong Python and SQL skills, and can quickly pick up and champion new technology.
- Working with wide variety of data formats, including interfacing with APIs, geospatial data, high volumes, speeds, and managing challenges around low quality/completeness.
- Systems thinking – with and ability to get into the detail while keeping the big picture in context.

- A bachelor's degree or post graduate degree in data analytics, computer science, statistics/mathematics, economics, engineering, or equivalent experience in another relevant field.
- Skills and experience with data modelling, data engineering, machine learning and AI, natural language queries, user experience (UX) design, and experience in AZURE and with Flourish.
